Wade Keighley
Born in 2012, Wade began painting when he was 11 years old creating vibrant, joyous paintings full of colour and movement.
He was born with Down syndrome which has influenced his art style in many ways.
He creates without hesitation, ego or doubt. During his painting sessions, he sings and dances without one worry about what other people think of him, his work, or his singing…
Wade has achieved a level of self-confidence and presence that many people will spend their whole life trying to reach.
Wade and Macarena
Wade is fortunate to work under the guidance of award-winning artist Macarena Ocea since 2023. Macarena is based at Burrinja Cultural Centre.
Her love of colour and joyous nature is a perfect match to Wade’s personality.
Their weekly sessions are filled with music, dance and colour as she mentors Wade through his artistic journey.

I’m Wade’s mum. I run this page for him and all the other life admin stuff.
I’m an artist too but my work is nowhere near as colourful as his! My studio is also at Burrinja Cultural Centre and is rapidly filling with his amazing artwork.
Wade is the light in my life. He brightens the days of everyone who meets him and I am so lucky I get to be his mum.
